These naked-eye-visible fluorescence color changes were recorded on a luminescence spectrophotometer. The spectral data are summarized in Table 1, and the emission spectra of pressed and annealed FLA-Cn samples are depicted in Fig. 4. It can be seen that the emission spectra are very consistent with the corresponding fluorescence colors observed (Fig. 3). The pressing-induced spectral shifts (ΔλPFC= λ加壓-λ退火) of FLA-C12, FLA-C5 and FLA-C3 solids are 40, 26, and 18 nm, respectively. This implies that FLA-Cn solids are also chain length-dependent PFC materials, and alkyl chains have played a functional role in tuning the PFC behavior of FLA-Cn although such alkyl elements are normally inactive and undesirable for optoelectronic properties. It is noted that the alkyl lengthdependent PFC behaviour of FLA-Cn is similar to those of 9,10- bis(p-dialkoxylstyryl)anthracenes(10i) and β-cyano-substituted bis(p-alkoxystyryl)benzenes5a but thoroughly different from that of 9,10-bis[(N-alkylcarbazol-3-yl)vinyl]anthracenes.13 The origin for this dichotomous alkyl chain length-dependent PFC behaviour is not clear at present, underlining the complexity of the structure–property relationship of PFC materials. |
