The Fushui event and belief of water god during Ming Qing dynasty and early Republic of China [Abstract] The Fushui event in Da jianan village is an old event, which reached golden age during Ming Qing dynasty and early Republic of China. The essence of Fushui event is the belief of water god, and the center is the worship to king and queen of dragon, so it is an activity of the belief of water god by groupment. The legend of Fushui event is the collective memory of the belief of water god. The procedure of Fushui event embodies the ritualization of the belief of water god, which reflects from the side that the belief of water god is deep-rooted in the ideology of common people; the influence of Fushui event reflects the function of the belief of water god, which promotes the growth of agriculture and conventional handicraft in a certain extent, improves the standard of living, enriches the spiritual world of common people, maintains the kinship and friendship of common people. So it is an important bond formed from the social relationship. However, it also has some feudalistic superstition, which has some negative effects to the local society.
