The manuscript of Zhao et al. introduces a new optimisation method for an existing quality function, to find communities in networks. The new method is capable of delivering good results. This fact would justify the publication of the manuscript, if it were clear that the new method is an improvement over the original one, published in [1]. Unfortunately, the manuscript does not contain a comparison between the old and the proposed method's results, so it is not clear whether the main point of the manuscript is indeed a step forward. If the authors can show that their new method is superior to the original one (the appropriate test being the LFR benchmark), or at least is significantly faster, the manuscript worth publication. Comparison to the old method is required also in the second case. |
